After reading through the module and chapters 6 & 7, consider how the earlier Aegean cultures may have influenced the later Greek culture centered around Athens. Review the artworks, what similarities do you see between
Aegean & Greek in style and/or subject matter? What are the major differences (again in style and/or subject matter)? Do Not limit your observation to the fact that the later Greeks are “more advanced” or “more skillful” – that is too
easy and an obvious fact. Try to be creative in your choice of comparison.
1. Choose one artwork from Aegean and one from Greek to illustrate a similarity; use one artwork from each to illustrate a difference. You may use the same 2 artworks for both the similarity & difference, or use a different set to total 4) Please post pictures, otherwise cite them clearly referring to page and image # or you may refer also to what is in the module instead.
2. For both the similarity and difference, suggest the significance. In other words, speculate on the meaning of why the later Greeks chose to do a similar thing; then speculate on why they did the different thing too. Is the difference a “rejection” of the previous idea/technique/tradition? Speculate on the Greek choices of style and subject matter based on the historical information you have learned. Be sure to cite specific information from the textbook or module.
