Assignment on International Business: An Overview
given by a robot Noodles Jajangmyeon Citizens in Seoul’s near future will be able to order jajangmyeon Chinese-Korean noodles, buy medicine, and shop for magazines from the comfort of their own homes, and have them delivered in half an hour by a robot. Kim Bong-jin, the founder of South Korea’s most popular food-delivery app, is hoping that autonomous devices the size of a small cooler will help his Baedal Minjok delivery service keep a hold on a market flooded with newcomers. In one of the world’s fastest-aging countries, the goal is to decrease expenses, eliminate delivery-related risks, and deal with a labor shortage. Kim is optimistic that his Dilly robots will begin delivering goods in three years. Woowa Brothers Corp, the business behind Baedal Minjok, has raised US$320 million in funding from Hillhouse Capital, Sequoia Capital, and GIC in the United States to assist construct a prototype that will be available soon. According to Markets & Markets Research Private Ltd, the worldwide service robotics industry is expected to nearly quadruple to US$29.8 billion by 2023. Kim’s start-up company, valued at 3 trillion won (US$2.7bil), presently processes roughly 28 million orders per month. It is difficult to get delivery to the 51 million people that dwell in the country.
First and foremost, Kim’s Dilly robots must be able to maneuver in metropolitan environments dominated by tall residential structures. He has devised a solution by collaborating with a local company to enable elevators to communicate with delivery robots. The idea is to attract clients like Lee Dong-woo, who orders food at home at least once a week and has everything from fried chicken to rice noodles to raw beef delivered to his door. The 39-year-old Seoul office worker stated, “I wouldn’t mind robots getting my orders at all.” In fact, I’d prefer it because I wouldn’t have to deal with the occasionally obnoxious deliverymen. 3 Kim has been assembling a team of robots experts and collaborating with Bear Robotics Inc., based in Sunnyvale, California, on devices that transport food to restaurant tables. Kim believes that his Dilly robots will be able to do simple duties in the future, such as rubbish collection or bringing a homemade lunch. According to Jing Bing Zhang, an analyst at IDC, there is an increasing trend of deploying robots to accomplish jobs that humans do not want to do. There are still a number of technical hurdles to be addressed.
There may be some safety worries, particularly in urban locations like Singapore, Shanghai, and Seoul, about whether they will be hit by other vehicles or hit people. People are first opposed to the thought of robots wandering their apartment complexes, according to Kim. The Dilly robots, according to critics, would frighten children and make their real estate less appealing. Some people may still prefer humans since they aren’t used to dealing with robots for payments and other services, said Jin Se-taek, who leads a group of roughly 1,100 families in Seongnam, south of Seoul.
Kim does not believe in having people work longer than necessary, despite the fact that his company is one of South Korea’s six unicorns, according to CB Insights. Kim doesn’t allow his employees to work more than 35 hours a week, which is five hours less than most South Korean enterprises. He’s pleased with the boost in production so far. We didn’t put this in place so we could take it easy, Kim explained. My goal was to create a work environment that allowed us to focus better. We should never stop considering how we may improve the way we work in order to improve the way we live. According to Bloomberg
