This activity is designed as a diagnostic tool to provide you with an opportunity to showcase your knowledge and understanding of basic writing principles and language conventions. The results of this quiz will allow your instructor to determine what, if any, additional supports you may need to ensure your success with the necessary concepts and skills required for this program. You will also be expected to set two to four writing goals for the extent of this course, and subsequently the remainder of your DBA program. The writing demands required to complete a doctoral degree necessitate strong written and oral communication skills and this assignment will assess the components to be an effective writer.
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
- Analyze and set goals for your writing practice.
Instructions
- Review the rubric to make sure you understand how to interpret the results of your test.
- Navigate to the test, Writing Practice: Sentence Structure(new tab). You may be required to sign in using your IWU credentials. Carefully read the instructions provided on the webpage.
- The test is being used as a diagnostic tool to know how we can better support you throughout this course and to give you the opportunity to set writing goals for yourself.
- You have 200 minutes to complete the test, with unlimited attempts available.
- Choose your test mode as Practice or Learner, descriptions of each are found on the Instruction Page.
- There are 40 questions.
- When you have completed your test:
- Review your Score Report (including any questions you answered incorrectly), Score Breakdown, and Recommended Resources.
- Download any recommended eBooks. Additional tests are not required.
- Note your topics of strength and weakness.
- Refer to the recommended resources as you complete the Writing Exercises each week.
- Complete a document summarizing the findings and identifying a plan of action for improvement. The document should be no more than one page in length:
- Communicate your results.
- Analyze your areas of weakness and strength.
- In the next eight weeks, what are 2–4 key priorities to improve your writing?
- What resources will you use to improve?
- Submit the document to the assignment submission page by the end of the workshop.
