was seen once it became legal in certain states. Please watch the two videos below. The first video from 60 Minutes provides some more context into the risks of sports betting, and the second is a more recent event that has occurred.

#1: 1. In your opinion, is sports betting an ethical practice within the industry? Do you think it differs depending on college or professional sports?
In my opinion, I would say no it is not an ethical practice within the industry because now since its legalization in more states and down to the collegiate level, the young demographics are becoming more so the target now. Yes, it differs when its collegiate or professional sports because of the
generations who are targeted. As said in the video by Mike Hamrick, “There’s people that will do what they need to do to make a buck at the expense of an 18 or 19-year-old kid.” College athletes are young and unpaid so betters as he said will do whatever to make money off them. Not saying it
doesn’t happen, because it can be very tempting to be bribed by unscrumptious betters, but the best way to avoid this is to stay educated on the topic.
I disagree, because Mike Hamrick who has been making some key points in the video said in the video that you only can access and control gambling to a certain extent. Regardless of what security and technology you have, nobody can tell you that they can deal with this 100%, because technology is way too accessible to be controlled in its entirety. There are so many ways to bet now that its legal in a lot of states that its risk of corruption increases because you will never know who, when, and if a game is going to be thrown prior to it happening in a way to stop it before it occur.
Yes, I think so because most of his bets were alongside his team in which he play for, so not only does it affect him if he loses or win the bet, but it also can involve him to do whatever is needed to do to throw the game if he must to protect his wager that was on the line. Nothing may not be meant to happen but will and can happen if it must when it involves your life or money.

#2: 1. In your opinion, is sports betting an ethical practice within the industry? Do you think it differs depending on college or professional sports?
I think that this is a very ethical practice, it is just a part of the industry that is growing alongside the technology growth. As with everything that evolves, there will be good things and bad things that are to come. They mentioned in the video how they are creating jobs that are tasked with protecting
the players. This shouldn’t be a bad thing, it’s just part of the growth that betting is bringing to the industry. I think that even if people think that this is not an ethical practice they should still step back and look at the number of new fans and revenue that this new industry is bringing to the sports industry.

I would agree due to the public eye that legalizing sports gambling has brought to the idea of corruption. People know that there is a high risk in gambling and that there are people out there that will do bad things in order to increase their odds. This knowledge allows people to be more observant of these practices.
I still think that he was in the wrong, no matter what you should not be betting on yourself. Even if he was saying that he was only betting on them to win there still is the possibility for him to bet on them losing which would make it a lot easier for him to come out on top.
#3: 1. In your opinion, is sports betting an ethical practice within the industry? Do you think it differs depending on college or professional sports?
I think that sports betting unethical but it is practical for the industry. I say it is unethical because as stated in the 60 minutes video, bookies use this platform to shave money off of 18 and 19 year olds that are desperate for a couple dollars. It is also impacting the sport. Teams are being booed when
winning a game. They are finding that they are being booed due to not making the last layup to cover the spread. This will have a lasting impact in sports because now teams have people to monitor these betting lines in order to protect players and programs. The reason it is practical is because it
continues to grow a larger target market to the industry. Everybody looks as betting as a way to make some money. It seems easy to everyone when in reality, the lines are so analytically thought out that some bets can be nearly impossible. With that being said, making those bets will create a larger
payout if you were to win the bet.
I disagree because it is still very possible in this day and age. Even though you are betting on a game and have a 50/50 shot of winning, the lines are so well thought out that it turns out to be a lot harder than expected. There is also still the risk of your money being taken even if you were to win the bet. States have taken the precautions to make sports gambling as safe as possible if it is legal in the state. This does not mean that it will all be safe. there are ways that you will lose money no matter what. Everybody knows that risk and accepts it if you are willing to throw money away on a sports game.
I do think that Calvin Ridley was in the wrong. All players know and it states in their contract that they are not able to bet on games within their sport and in some cases any other sport. Even though he did not release and insider information, he was still in the wrong for violating his contract. It also brings up the point that he had some noticeable drops and a couple sketchy plays. Now everyone is questioning, did he do this in order to win his bet. He should not be doing this and any player inside the sport knows this as well.
