CO547 Assignment: Culture Shock
Choose a term or concept that appears frequently in the literature on cross-cultural education/counseling. Conduct a thorough search of the term’s meaning and application in the literature.
Students are free to format the definition in any way that best reflects their background, expertise, and interests, but they must offer answers to the following questions:
1. What is the origin of the term? 2. What are the alternatives to the above-mentioned definitions? 3. Which definition is chosen, and why? 4. What are the best one or two primary sources for learning more about the term?
Because the meaning of some terms evolves with time, you might want to include a brief historical context while writing the definition.
Definitions should be typed with double spacing. Your homework should be no more than two pages long (maximum of 350 – 400 words). The 2-page minimum does not include the cover page or the reference page.
The paper must be typed in Microsoft Word, in the Times New Roman typeface, at a size of 12 points. Double-spaced; font size; 1 margins on all sides. The assignment should be written at a graduate level, with all sources mentioned within the discussion and documented in an APA-styled reference list.
Post your paper to the grade book as a single document.
When you’re ready for your assignment to be graded, send an email to your instructor.

APA Style Guides
The teacher has provided links to resources that can help with APA formatting questions. Check out these resources and don’t be afraid to ask for help if you’re unsure about something. Before you submit a paper, ask yourself the following questions. This list does not cover every possible mistake, but it will alert you to the most common ones.
Is your document double-spaced? Are the abbreviations that are required explained?
Is your reference list complete with in-text citations? Keep in mind that the website is a source.
4th page of 4
Did you incorporate in-text citations for all of your sources? Your reference list should only include references that assist your work.
Numbers 10 and below should be written out in full.
Are quotes accurately referenced in the text? Quotes should be used with caution. In a three-page paper, there should be no more than one quote.
Is your reference list appropriately formatted with your sources? Pay strict attention to capitalization and indentation standards.
Is your title page formatted according to APA guidelines?
Is the reference page separated by a page break?
Have you included a suitable running header in your paper?
Did you proof your paper and have it proofed by another person before submitting it?
Assignments involving writing are regarded very seriously. Graduate students are required to write clearly and simply, with your thoughts organized in a logical manner.
Make rational decisions. Each document is read with these considerations in mind. If you utilize incorrect phrasing or employ a lot of words, it will affect the format and style of your writing.
