REVISED COURSE PROJECT
The course project for this semester is to RESEARCH a fire department and its hiring process. You may choose one from the following departments:
1. Los Angeles County Fire
2. Los Angeles City Fire
3. Orange County Fire Authority
4. San Bernardino County Fire
5. San Diego City Fire Department
Your paper must include the following topics:
1. Demographics of the City/County and the fire department, (number of stations, number of calls for service annually., number of firefighters etc.
2. Overview of the department organization (refer to an organizational chart to identify how they divide up Operations, Support, Prevention, Public Education etc. Departments will have different names for these
For example. Bureau VS Division. They will also organize differently. It is important that you understand
This information and how it is dependent on each individual department.
3. What specialty services do they provide…i.e. haz mat, USAR, community paramedicine etc.
4. How does your department provide and deliver paramedic service?
5. Give detailed information about their Training Department. Location, Staffing, etc. I want you to also
include their academy info. When they hire a trainee, what does their training consist of prior to sending
that person out to a station to begin their probation. How long is their probation?
6. Job Flyer. Obtain a copy of their recent hiring Job Flyer/Recruitment Announcement. You will attach this to your report at the end (after your Reference page). In this section, I want you to explain in DETAIL what the process is to get hired….remember the assignment that talked about the steps in the hiring process? Does your department utilize all the steps? What order are they in?
The body of your paper should be 3 pages, In addition, include a cover page, a reference page and your job flyer. Must be 12 font utilizing MLA Format.
You will start out with 100 points. Points will be deducted for Grammar, not using MLA format, not providing A reference page, or a cover page. Points will also be deducted for lack of substance or depth in your research
