Chapter 12 focuses on the ways that a firm can create value through innovation. This week we learned about the concepts unique to new product development and launch; the product life cycle, and the importance of product differentiation.
As a marketer, sometime in your career you will be involved in a new product innovation, lets put the process into practice.
Select a product that you use/buy on a regular bases lets go beyond jeans, cell phones, and toothpaste J!! I suggest that you research a larger company that has a deep product line and or product mix.
Once you have found your product, display the information found (provide the url).
Go to the web and research the companys site and see if you can assess how new products are developed; specifically look for innovation and product development. This may also require you to go beyond the about us home page, but rather do a google search on the product to see how it was developed, and or introduced to market. Try how are products developed for XXXX company youll be surprised what you come up with this basic search.
Describe the innovation process. Does the process follow the process as outlined in Chapter 12? Discuss he similarities / differences of the process.
Lastly, discuss where the product is in its product life cycle (identify one of the stages between introduction and decline.
Respond to two other students new product findings and discuss the success of the product in the market today.
