business practices discussed in this text to increase profits, keep the business running, and bring the cafe into the 21st century. Upon
completion of the case you will have performed a vast array of activities including: •Use technology to gain a competitive advantage •Build an e-business strategy •Create an online community for collaboration •Deploy a wireless network for customers
•Use CRM to implement marketing campaigns and sales strategies •Deal with different ethical and information security dilemmas
•Project management activities for implementing solutions •Understand how technology is used throughout a business by all the
different functional areas You have recently inherited your grandfather’s coffee shop, The Broadway Cafe, which is conveniently
located in downtown (your city). The cafe offers many kinds of specialized coffees, teas, a full-service bakery, and homemade
sandwiches, soups, and salads. Your grandfather first opened The Broadway Cafe in 1952, and it was a local hotspot for many years.
Unfortunately, business has been steadily declining over the last five years. Although your grandfather was an expert at running the
coffee shop, it is outdated. There are no computers in the store, and all ordering takes place manually. Your grandfather had a terrific memory and knew all of his customers by name, but unfortunately, none of this information is located anywhere in the store. The
family recipes for the baked goods and soups are also stored in your grandfather’s memory. Inventory is tracked in a notepad, along
with employee payroll, and marketing coupons. The Cafe does not have a Web site, uses very little marketing except word-of-mouth,
and essentially still operates the same as it did in 1952. Directions for Unit 2 Milestone for Final Project. Overview Advances in
technology make it easier for people to copy everything from music to pictures. Technology poses new challenges for our ethics—
the principles and standards that guide our behavior toward other people. Intellectual property, copyright infringement, pirated software, counterfeit software are a few of the ethical issues stemming from advances in technology. PROJECT INSTRUCTIONS:
Each week you will submit your response to the business situation presented. Use an APA formatted paper with a Title page and a
References page. Your paper should be double-spaced and written in Times New Roman size 12 font. The paper will be written in an
essay format. Do not use a question and answer format. Making Business Decisions I You have a wide variety of employees at
The Broadway Cafe. Some of the employees have been working at the cafe since before you were born and some are brand new. Some of the employees you trust as well as you trusted your grandfather, and others are new to the cafe, and you are just starting to
build a working relationship. Last week you were faced with a difficult situation and had to fire one of your employees. This
particular employee had a bad attitude, continually showed up late for work, and was caught stealing money out of the cash register.
When the employee cleaned out his locker, you noticed him stuff a thumb drive into his pocket. You were suddenly concerned with
other items he might have stolen while working at the cafe. For this part of the project, you will write a paper in which you will
respond to the following questions. Describe the problems you face as the business owner as you take over your grandfather’s business. •What can you do to protect your data while still building a sense of trust among your employees? •Develop a document
discussing the importance of creating information management policies. •Be sure to highlight each policy that The Broadway Cafe
should implement and how the policy can protect the company, its employees, and its data. NOTE: This assignment is subject to
