Instructions:
Discuss probable issues in a clinical situation at an out-patient family practice. Ethical And Legal Implications Students will investigate the consequences of healthcare team conflict on patient outcomes and implications for members of the healthcare team. Students will devise methods to reduce unfavorable outcomes, resulting in a positive practice culture.
You are a family nurse practitioner working at a large hospital system’s outpatient primary care office. The office has been operational for more than 15 years, and many of the administrative and clinical staff members were hired when it first launched. You’ve only been in the practice for a few months. Several members of the clinical staff have engaged in intense fights with one another in that short period of time, sometimes in patient areas. You overhear a quarrel between two employees today. When you pick up a patient’s chart, you find that the medical assistant failed to inform you about the patient’s extremely low blood pressure. When you confront the MA, she claims she was about to report the vital signs to you when she got caught up in the intense conversation you witnessed and failed to notify you.
Regrettably, this sort of behavior is not uncommon in this field. Working with personnel who are unable to cooperate successfully can have a negative impact on your capacity to spend time with patients, obstruct patient flow, and jeopardize patient safety.
Responses to the Case Study: Examine the case study for any concerns that may arise for members of the healthcare team as a result of office conflict. Compare and contrast the probable consequences for each member of the healthcare team based on the week’s required readings. Discuss the ethical and legal ramifications for each of the following practice members: Medical assistant Nurse Practitioner Medical Director Practice What methods would you use to prevent future incidents of possibly risky patient outcomes?
What leadership traits would you use to help the practice change for the better? Concentrate on the practice’s culture.
Each week, a scholarly reference must be used for EVERY discussion question.
