Discussions on Affordale Healthcare’s Privileged and Underprivileged Communities
THE FIRST DISCUSSION IS ABOUT POLICY.
Solving public problems, despite excellent intentions, is tough. On the following points, there is disagreement:
What exactly is a problem?
Is it possible and desirable to solve it?
Who should be the one to solve it?
The conflict originates from political actors’ and the general public’s conflicting values and views (ideology). This frequently results in heated dispute, especially when a large sum of money is at stake. Furthermore, policymaking frequently
results in unanticipated difficulties (externalities), prompting many to argue that it is best to “leave it alone.” The status quo is generally preferred by Americans over the unfamiliar.
Consider the current issues in your neighborhood (local, state or national).
What are the two most pressing issues that need to be addressed?
What are some of the most significant roadblocks to political action on these two issues?
Consider incorporating suggestions from the class!
By Thursday, each student will have created one topic and responded to at least two classmates’ postings.
POLICY ANALYSIS (discussion #2)
You choose two contemporary challenges facing your community (local, state, or national) and addressed the primary impediments inhibiting political action on these topics in the preceding discussion session.
Select a policy solution to one of the issues you identified in this discussion thread. You might do some study and look into current policy ideas on the subject, or you could come up with a policy suggestion that isn’t currently being discussed.
This discussion forum’s goal is for you to thoroughly study a policy solution, share your findings with our class, and learn from your classmates’ research and analysis of numerous policies.
Please react to ALL of the following prompts in the discussion forum:
Declare the public problem you’ve chosen and the policy solution you’ll be examining. Summarize this policy idea in a few words.
Identify two arguments (or reasons) in favor of this proposal’s approval.
Identify two points of contention (or counter-arguments) with this proposition
Create two substantive and challenging questions that will stimulate deeper thinking and examination of the public issue or topic you’ve chosen. These questions should serve as an invitation for your classmates to explore a topical issue.
By Thursday, each student will have responded to the prompt and replied to at least two classmates’ posts.
