Explain the interrelationship between the theory, research, and EBP.
These three (theory, research, and evidence-based practice) are the major approaches used to offer patient-centered care. Nursing theories are very crucial aspects of nursing practice. Theories are the foundation of nursing practice and help in advancing the nursing practice (Naz, 2017). During theory development, concepts, statements, and models are controlled aiming at control, explaining, or describing a particular event. The research findings are offered through the use of theories and affirmed hypotheses both in qualitative and quantitative research merthods. Theories are, therefore, the cornerstone of scientific disciplines.
Research is conducted with the sole aim of generating new knowledge or validating existing knowledge. The research studies comprise systematic and scientific aiming at giving answers to some research questions or testing hypotheses. Research also requires a comprehensive understanding of theory as well as a philosophical science. Only when a researcher uses scientific methods and follows all the required steps can the research findings be credible.
Research necessitates an all-inclusive review of the accessible literature that helps in providing answer to the question under research. On the other hand, the theories allow the identification of knowledge gaps, giving a basis for the research questions and the hypothesis.
On the other hand, EBP, unlike research, does not engross the development of novel knowledge or the authentication of the existing one. Instead, EBP is mostly concerned with the translation of research findings and applying them in making clinical decisions (Waligórska, et al., 2019). Evidence-based practices are tried and tested teaching strategies proven to be effective in various settings with a large number of subjects.
Evidence-based practices meet set standards related to the design of research, eminence, and size, helping to bridge the research to practice gap and improve the outcome of the patients. EBP goes far beyond the use of research to include patient values, preferences, and clinical expertise. This helps eliminate biases by considering the best evidence developed from experts and including definitive knowledge from the research findings.
QUALITATIVE STUDY
Qualitative research involves gathering and analyzing non-numerical data used in understanding opinions, concepts, and experiences (Rosenthal, 2016). This type of research is used to collect insights concerning a certain problem or generating new ideas that can be used for research. This type of research is normally used in social sciences and humanities in subjects like education and health sciences. The researchers must select the right method of research. This will help in ensuring that the research will be successful in attaining its goals and objectives.
The study Understanding process and context in breastfeeding support interventions: The potential of qualitative research aimed at assessing the projection of qualitative research method in helping understand the context and process in interventions of supporting breastfeeding (Leeming, Marshall, & Locke, 2017). The study would try to offer answers to the question of whether qualitative methods are the best in helping understand the psychological process within breastfeeding interventions.
The researchers conducted a literature review on the previous research studies on this topic. The information gathered helped the researchers develop the basis of their study, thus helping them understand this study from a broader perspective. The study researchers would put more of their efforts into ethnography, discourse, and phenomenology analysis. The study found out that there are epistemological differences between qualitative methodologies and the broadly used positivist approach (Leeming, Marshall, & Locke, 2017).
QUANTITATIVE STUDY
Quantitative data deals with values, quantities, or numbers, something that makes data measurable. A quantitative data survey uses closed-ended quantitative questions where the respondent is expected to choose answers from a list that is given. Therefore, the questions can be given choices that are numerical in value which one can later convert into tables, graphs, and indicators. This will help researchers to get very vital data that will help in leading to the best decision possible.
The study Assessment of Psychological Distress among B. Sc Nursing Students at SRM College of Nursing was aimed at finding the connection between psychosomatic distress and the students social-demographic variables. The study question was what is the level of psychological stress among the nursing students at SRM nursing College? (Devakani, et al., 2019). this study involved a total of one hundred and eighty-one nursing students. The researchers did sampling using a non-probability convenient sampling method. During the data collection process, the researchers started by providing an explanation to the participants regarding the purpose of the study. They then obtained consent from the participants who signed agreeing to be part of the study.
The researchers used questionnaires to collect data, which was then analyzed through inferential and descriptive statistics. The research study showed that psychological distress was very high in students especially during their first year of study (Devakani, et al., 2019). However, this distress was seen to continue reducing as the students continued progressing to their final year of study.

The major goal of the article Understanding process and context in breastfeeding support interventions: The potential of qualitative research was to discuss problems derived from computing results in a randomized controlled trial supporting breastfeeding. The study was also aimed at offering proof that having an understanding of the vital processes that are used in supporting breastfeeding can be enhanced through the use of qualitative research.
The study found out that supporting the women who are breastfeeding is a compound process that requires a lot of attention as well as a lot of interaction with contextual issues. This is especially because women will perceive breastfeeding support interventions differently according to their experiences, preferences, and cultural background. Therefore, the study found out that qualitative study methods are very suitable in helping examine the evaluations of interventions of breastfeeding.
It is critical to adopt various strategies in various forms on breastfeeding support. Therefore, the healthcare systems are required to use qualitative methodologies and engage the participants in understanding the effects of the various interventions.
The main goal of the study article Assessment of Psychological Distress among B. Sc Nursing Students at SRM College of Nursing was aimed at evaluating the level of psychological distress among the students undertaking nursing education. This study also was intended at finding whether there is any connection between psychological distress level among the learners and their social-demographic variables (Devakani, et al., 2019).
The study found out that there was a very high psychological distress among the students of nursing in their first year in school. However, this distress was reduced significantly as the leaner progressed towards their final year of study. This illustrates that as the learners continued with their education, they have improved mental health because they are already used to the college system.
Based on the evidence provided by this study, their strategies must be put in place to help deal with the psychological distress of the nursing students in their first years in school. Some of these interventions may include having educational programs that will help the students understand that they may fail to attain their targets during their initial year. They must, however, understand that they have to improve their efficacy levels and adopt positive attitudes so that they can be able to become better and attain their set goals and objectives.
Suppose there are not such education programs, the students who fail to achieve their set goals and objectives may develop a lot of pressures of not attaining what they aspired, which may result in psychological stress, which may bring some disorders such as anxiety and stress others.
Discuss the credibility of the sources and the research/researcher’s findings
The instruments and the data that have been used in these two studies have gone through review by specialists in the respective fields of study. The experts revised the questions that were not clear, and the compound items were re-worded. The questions that were found to be ineffective were done away with, and all the questions were validated.
The questionnaires results were given out to the participants, who counter-checked and validated the contents that gave out during the study. This ensured that the research findings were truthful and supported by evidence. Similarly, all the sources that are used in these two studies are peer-reviewed. Different search engines were used to get scholarly peer-reviewed research articles.
