Pollinator Observations
Instructions:
Read and understand the attached PDF file titled “Pollination – Lab 1” and then find an open area that contains many different flowers and watch one flower on one plant for 5 mins. Record the color, shape, and location of that flower (See the word file named TIEE Pollination Lab Syndromes). Then tally the number of each type of visitor that comes to the flower in that 5 mins. Repeat that for 7 times on 7 different flowers.
Objectives:
Identify common flowering plants, common insect pollinators/visitors to those plants
Identify common pollination syndromes evident in those common plants and pollinators
Equipment:
This handout and data sheets
Stopwatches or watches with second hand or cell phone
Identification guides, iNaturalist or other keys
Binoculars (as many as we have)
Clipboards
You have to do the following:
Watch 7-different flowers and then record the color, shape, and location of that flower. Then tally the number of each type of visitor that comes to the flower in that 5 mins. Repeat 7 times (See the word file named TIEE Pollination Lab Syndromes)
Fill-out the third attached file which named by “TIEE_Pollination_Lab_ENVS” completely include answering the 3 questions that in Data Investigation part.
