Conducting business internationally is profitable but it comes with various challenges. These challenges are beyond the barriers of language, time and currency. Some of the biggest ethical challenges that organizations face in business globally include cultural differences, difficulty of communication, political risks, foreign laws, corruption, working style, lifestyle and code of conduct.
Foreign government considerations should be well analyzed before thinking of extending globally. This should be done to make a smooth way for currency exchanges, procurement of raw materials and other resources, immigration, employment laws, supply chain and gathering the reserves for future.
Corruption is one of the major concerns when organizations want to set up their business globally. Government support is very much needed when an organization plans to extend internationally as their part is much needed in licenses, approvals and legal laws which should be followed.
For example, the case of GlaxoSmithKline which has caught into the act of bribery which has known when internal audit has resulted in bribery. Other important thing which should be discussed when it comes to ethical challenges are cultural difference. In this aspect most of the challenges raise from the local people.
For example, Pork is banned in most of the Indian states and when the organisation from food industry plans to extend its business in India it is very important to consider these local minor issues as they will grew up in huge opposition (von Wallpach et al., 2018).
Employees and their work culture are another important aspect when thinking about global expansion as the pattern of communication level differs from country to country. These should be dealt very carefully else there will be conflicts among the employees.
Manpower should be trained in such a way that they are well integrated with the organizational ethics, policies and procedures. Integration of business with existing local standards will help the business grow locally. Ethics is a very sensitive aspect which should be dealt very carefully by the organization when thinking of spreading globally as it has huge impact on the business.
