Psychology represents the process of scientifically studying the mind and behaviors of an individual. Psychology consists of many study areas such as sports, human development, clinical, health, cognitive, and social behavior.Psychology as a field can be implemented in the workplace to improve employees’ morale, reduce stress caused by work, and motivate the employees.
Psychologists can employ evidence-based practices, principles, and theories that target understanding and improve cognitive awareness amongst employees, leading to improved problem-solving and creativity, improving decision-making and reasoning.
In this article, we will discuss how problem-solving and creativity, decision-making, and reasoning theories can be implemented and how human and artificial intelligence can be implemented in an organization and discuss the importance of each aspect in the success of a business organization.
Problem-solving and creativity.An organization with employees who employ excellent problem-solving skills and showcases higher levels of creativity is bound to be very successful instead of an organization with employees showcasing less of these skills.
Creative problem solving represents a technique focused on identifying unique answers or solutions to an issue through a systemic process of problem identification and planning. T
he founder of Creative Education Development developed the creative problem-solving theory in 1940 by Alex Osborn (Management, 2013)
. This problem-solving approach is essential to a workplace since it goes deeper and looks beyond the usual approaches to providing solutions regarding brand positioning, product innovation, and workflow issues.
Developing creative problem-solving techniques requires psychologists in the working environment to encourage an environment of consistency in innovation. This skill can be developed through using strategic frameworks, practicing empathy, and practicing empathy. An individual with creative problem-solving skills will also showcase a critical understanding of their environment, motor integration skills, and pattern recognition.
Decision-making and reasoning.
Decision-making and reasoning represent aspects within psychology aimed at providing solutions for a given problem.
Decision-making represents a cognitive process that leads to selecting a specific course of action or belief from a large number of alternative options. Before an individual embarks on a decision, the process of looking into the available alternative option in terms of preferences, beliefs and values, and arriving at a specific decision is regarded as a reasoning process (Essex, 2019). Reasoning can result in rational or irrational decisions. Better reasoning leads to quality decision-making in an organization.
Individuals with more excellent reason efficiencies showcase cognitive efficiencies such as analytical abilities, a better understanding of their environments, and creativity.
Human and artificial intelligence
Human and artificial intelligence represents one of the essential elements in decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Human intelligence represents the ability of an individual to use their mind to think through the available options and come up with a good decision. Artificial intelligence represents a technological advancement that enables machines to arrive at a particular decision using algorithms.
Artificial intelligence to complement human intelligence within an organization can lead to ethical issues such as biasness and privacy issues.
Conclusion
Psychologists implement theories, principles, and evidence-based bests practices within an organization to improve the cognitive abilities within an organization that, in the long run, leads to improved outcomes in the organization. Creative decision-making theory was first developed by Alex Osborn in 1940 and focused on systemic identification of the problem and planning to develop the solution.
Decision-making and reasoning represent aspects that seek to develop solutions for a problem through systemic reasoning and choosing a more viable solution. Lastly, human intelligence involves an individual using their mind to develop solutions for a particular problem, and artificial intelligence represents the ability of machines to make decisions using algorithms.
