PICO AND LIT RESEARCH PROJECT
PICO questions help practicing nurses and researchers concentrate their research topics and establish an effective literature search approach. Future nurses must learn how to do this in order to generate evidence-based solutions to patient care challenges in a healthcare setting.
This assignment is worth 68 points and will account for 20% of your overall course mark. It is graded using the rubric included in this submission folder. Unless a Late Pass is used, late submissions will be penalized by 10% per day.
Instructions:
1. Create a PICO question based on one of the scenarios from the list provided below. To help you create your questions, look over the templates in the EBP Step by Step 3 article. You may need to conduct preliminary research to identify a problem-solving intervention (the “I”) that has been studied and published.
2. For each question, identify the PICO elements.
3. Create a search strategy that includes at least three keywords from the P, I, and O sections of your PICO, one synonym, and one MeSH term for each of your keywords.
4. Locate four articles that will assist you in answering your PICO query. The following standards must be met by the articles:
Quantitative research publications from primary sources are required.
No article can be more than a year old.
5. From the school database, obtain pdfs of the four articles you choose. They must display the entire article’s text. If the article is not available in the School database, you may request access from the school Library, or you may email me the article’s citation and I will try to locate a pdf version.
6. Write your PICO question as a phrase in a Word document; identify the P, I, C, and O for each question; and list the search terms (3 keywords, 1 synonym, 1 MeSH term) for each. You may use the provided template. Also see the MeSH terminology website, which is linked below.
7. Create an APA reference page for each of the articles you choose in Step 4 of these instructions. See the APA and Writing LibGuide links below.
