Make sure to learn about the various party platforms, such as the Democratic Party (Links to an external site. ), Republican Party (Links to an external site. ), and a third party (e.g., Libertarian Party (Links to an external site. ), Green Party (Links to an external site. ), Constitution Party (Links to an external site. ), and so on.
Consider the following: Our political system is defined by certain fundamental characteristics, such as a system of laws, rights, and liberties. The laws are designed to protect and secure the rights and liberties of individuals and groups throughout the United States, and they are created and supported by the Constitutional framework. However, the government must also ensure that its citizens are safe from serious internal and external threats that could endanger our country. Consider how the need for homeland and national security can create a dilemma in which security requirements clash with demands for civil rights and liberties.
In your first post, write:
Explain the government’s obligations to its citizens and how these obligations affect individual and group rights in the United States.
Give real-world examples to back up your claims, including at least one personal example from your own life.
Explain the positions of the two major parties and a third party in relation to the example you presented, using your own personal example.
