The goal of this laboratory activity is to learn about the Earth’s cryosphere and drylands. Students should be able to explain what the cryosphere is and how changes in it affect the rest of the Earth’s system. Dryland processes, landscapes, and hazards should all be identifiable by students.
II. Investigation of the Cryosphere
The cryosphere is made up of all of the snow and ice on Earth. To answer the following questions, refer to Figure 1 in the Glacier and Dryland Figures.pdf page.

C. Complete the Nisqually Glacier Data Chart below, referring to Figure 3. To do so, measure the distance in kilometers between the Nisqually River Bridge and the glacier’s terminal (red dot) for each year of the chart using a ruler and the map’s bar scale. Make sure you write down your distances to two decimal places (hundredths of km).
