How to Use HRP Fundamentals to Successfully Downsize
With more and more online sales and fewer customers in the stores, a successful franchise owner of a prominent sporting goods brand is feeling the effects of technology. Locally, there are three stores, and for maximum profitability and performance, each store requires the following positions: a store manager, an assistant manager, five department managers, and 20 customer service representatives, with an average yearly sales of $1 200 000. However, there has been a 20 percent drop in store sales, with a 30 percent increase in online sales (the internet revenue stream was $300,000 last year). Last year, the franchise owner managed all internet sales with a team of five full-time remote workers (working from home).
The owner wants each store’s productivity to remain consistent, which he assesses as revenue per employee. He also believes that the online business has the potential to expand.
Please answer the following questions to assist the owner.
Questions
1.Forecast the need for labor in the stores and online over the next three years using your HR planning knowledge.
2.Estimate HR supply over the next three years assuming a 15% yearly turnover rate for in-store staff and a 30% turnover rate for online-focused employees.
3.Do you think there will be a labor shortage or surplus? Create a detailed plan to address the anticipated labor deficit or surplus.
