How to use system restore
System Restore is a Windows feature that allows you to restore your computer’s system files and settings to a previous point in time. This can be useful if your computer is experiencing problems or if you accidentally delete important files. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to use System Restore in Windows:
Step 1: Open System Restore
The first step is to open the System Restore utility. You can do this by typing “system restore” into the search bar in the Start menu, then clicking on “Create a restore point” from the search results. Alternatively, you can right-click on “This PC” or “My Computer” and select “Properties” > “System Protection” > “System Restore.”
Step 2: Choose a restore point
Once the System Restore window is open, you will see a list of available restore points. Choose a restore point that was created before the problem occurred or before you deleted an important file. You can also click on “Scan for affected programs” to see a list of programs that will be affected by the restore.
Step 3: Confirm the restore point
After selecting a restore point, click on “Next” to confirm your selection. You will then be shown a summary of the restore point you have chosen, including the date and time of the restore point and the programs and drivers that will be affected.
Step 4: Begin the system restore
If you are happy with the restore point you have chosen, click on “Finish” to begin the restore process. Your computer will then restart and the system files and settings will be restored to the selected restore point.
Step 5: Check the results
Once the restore process is complete, check to see if the problem you were experiencing has been resolved. If it has, great! If not, you may need to try a different restore point or seek further assistance.
Notes and Tips:
System Restore is not a substitute for regular backups of your important files and documents. Be sure to back up your important data regularly to avoid data loss.
System Restore does not affect your personal files, such as photos, music, and documents. It only affects system files and settings.
System Restore does not remove viruses or malware. If your computer is infected with a virus or malware, you will need to use antivirus software to remove it.
If you cannot access System Restore through the Start menu, you can try accessing it through the Advanced Startup Options menu. To do this, restart your computer and press and hold the F8 key until the Advanced Startup Options menu appears. From there, select “Repair your computer” and then “System Restore.”
