IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:
Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.
Mission Statement
A mission statement is a statement that describes the purpose of a program. A mission statement’s key component includes:
- A goal: is a road map that leads to a path that clarifies the intention of the program, the direction they want the program to go, and what end result they want to achieve (Fertman, 2017).
- The Objectives: are steps (who, when, where, what, and how) that are required to meet the goal (Fertman, 2017).
- The process objective: is a necessary step and must be specific and measurable to accomplish the goal. This step identifies areas in the program that needs to be changed in order for the goal to be implemented (Fertman, 2017).
- An action objective: is steps made for action and behavior change of the targeted population (Fertman, 2017).
- The outcome objective: is used to identify the specific long-term accomplishment of the program (Fertman, 2017).
Local Public Health Program
A local organization that has a public health program is the Galveston County Health District (GCHD)’s HEAL (Healthy Eating | Active Living) public health program. Their mission is to become the healthiest county in Texas by promoting easy to learn and fun healthy activities to improve its population quality of life (Galveston County Health District, 2020).
The key components for the GCHD are successfully represented. The organization had a goal that was specific and stated its intention and the direction they wanted to go and their end result. The objectives are clear through the different sectors within the program they promoted, such as marathons, fun get active events, ways to eat healthy, how to cook healthily, how to stay active, and how to manage diabetes (GCHD, 2020).
The statement started with factual data from the CDC stating that approximately 40% of Americans are obese and that the HEAL program will come up with creative ways to help their community achieve the goal of becoming the healthiest county in Texas. This mission statement influences public health because they are striving to make a difference for the public health of their community because obesity is a serious health condition that can lead to cardiovascular diseases (diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke) and other comorbidities (GCHD, 2020).
