Description
Challenge 2 – The selfie
Instructions:
Select 2 examples of your public self-representations from different sources, (i.e., profile pictures, smartphone home screens, social media, workplace profile etc.). Include copies of your two examples and answer the following questions:
Compare and contrast the representations of your “self,” explaining how they are using codes and conventions of the medium, form, and/or genre to represent different versions of you.
Describe the target audiences for each representation.
How are the audiences different?
How have you modified each selfie to appeal to or influence each target audience?
Do the different representations result from you intentionally manipulating the codes and conventions to create the different versions? If so, how?
Are differences the result of differences in the media form or genre?
What perspectives, beliefs or biases may be present in these representations? Explain.
Each answer to the four questions should be a minimum of 200 words. Write in paragraph form and clearly identify which questions you are answering. Reference material that you have learned about so far in this course.
If you choose to hand in this challenge, the teacher will assess your work using a rubric. Review the rubric to ensure that you are meeting the success criteria to the best of your ability.
