Order ID: 89JHGSJE83839 Style: APA/MLA/Harvard/Chicago Pages: 5-10 Instructions:
Although chronic illnesses can occur at any stage across the lifespan, the focus of this discussion board is on the middle adulthood onset of chronic illness, and how, as health care providers we can moderate or delay both the onset as well as the effects of these conditions.
For this weeks activity, each learner is to choose one of the following Health Conditions listed below for their initial post AND respond/contribute to the posts of two (2) other students within their group. No duplication of topics is permitted, if duplication occurs no marks will be allocated to students duplicating their initial topic posts. Therefore, ensure a discussion in your group as to what initial topic post is chosen. For your initial post you are to ensure you answer all of the following questions as applicable:
What is the condition you are discussing?
What is the age range of mid-adulthood?
Is the condition genetic or related primarily to aging?
If not related to genetics, is it unique to older adults? If not unique to older adults what are the notable differences of the
condition within this age group e.g. the differences between managing diabetes in early adulthood and mid-adulthood?
Why would intervening at the mid-adulthood stage be better than during late adulthood?
What are the long-term effects that make it important to pre-empt chronic health conditions?
What are contributing factors? Are they behavioural or developmental?
What are contributing lifestyle/ behaviour/ habits factors?
What are preventative factors?
What are some of the resulting socio-emotional effects?
As a future nurse, what do you view as a priority action when working with the middle-aged adult to facilitate healthy aging?
What theories apply to these situations when planning interventions? You MUST include a community organization/ resource to which individuals can be referred for additional support. It has to be a resource that is available to individuals who live in Thunder Bay and/or Northwestern Ontario.
You MUST include a rationale of why you chose that particular resource.
If there is no appropriate community resource, what options as a nurse should be explored?
