Order ID: 89JHGSJE83839 Style: APA/MLA/Harvard/Chicago Pages: 5-10 Instructions:
In On the Social Contract, Rousseau writes that it is necessary for the state to compel individual citizens to follow the law. If someone violates the laws, he or she will be forced to be free (i.e., forced to adhere to laws that promote the general interest). In your paper, take a position on whether or not states can legitimately force their citizens to obey laws that conflict with their own desires. Support your argument with evidence from Rousseau and at least one other philosopher. Once you have taken a clear position and supported it with evidence from texts and other relevant examples, present at least one potential objection to your thesis. Then, address this objection within the context of your overall argument.
