PLEASE READ CAREFULLY; the instructions for the next two weeks are different than previously.
Each student will write a brief summary for each chapter of the Policy Primer textbook OR an alternate assigned reading (See attached reading* and note below), followed by reflections on additional readings and personal experience.
Prepare
A summary of key points in the chapter or alternate reading (250 words, maximum) — presenting the main theme and a description of how the authors make their points (use examples from the reading). This week, as there are 2 chapters, each student will write TWO summaries for a total of 500 words in this section. When writing your summaries, ensure you clearly indicate which chapter you are summarizing (e.g. through the use of headings).
A brief discussion on how the chapter or alternate reading relates to other discussion materials assigned for that week (other readings, videos, etc) (100 words, maximum). Think critically. Consider similarities, differences, relationships, cause and effect, gaps in the information, etc. This week, you will discuss how the HRM public hearing additional readings are connected to either chapter 5 or 6. The choice is up to you which chapter you refer to.
A reflection on how the content relates to things you interact with in your everyday life (50-100 words, maximum): perhaps an experience from the previous week, or some action you are considering, or something you are following in the media. Reflect critically on the experience in relation to the theme of the week’s readings.
A question for class discussion which is related to that week’s content (50 words or less).
Reference the materials you refer to in your summary using APA format
These summaries are due on the Monday before class at 12:30pm AT. Please submit all of the above as ONE (1) document and PDF to the week 5 dropbox.
