Description
Purpose
This assignment is intended to help you learn to do the following:
Develop oral and visual presentation skills as they relate to professional projects.
Present research and ideas in different mediums and forums.
Overview
Written business proposals are often accompanied by oral presentations directed towards the audience who will make the decision about whether or not to approve the suggested course of action.
In this assignment, you will prepare and deliver a 5-minute presentation explaining your proposal to this intended audience, and you will conduct a short question-and-answer session following the presentation. Your presentation should be careful to address the core components of the proposal, though your discussion of certain elements may need to be considerably abbreviated given the time constraint.
As you prepare, consider how you can pack the most punch into your presentation given your time constraints. What strategies might you adopt to make your presentation both clear and interesting to your audience. If you have elected to write a proposal for your place of work, envision your classmates as the group of stakeholders that will say yes or no to your proposal. If you have elected to write a proposal for the Franklin innovation seminar, envision your classmates as the award committee described in the assignment.
Action Items
Review the date and time that your instructor assigned for your presentation.
Prepare a 5-minute slide presentation (e.g., PowerPoint or Google slides) that realizes the genre in an engaging way. There will be a 1-2-minute Q&A. As you design your slideshow, ask yourself the following questions:
Is content well-organized given the medium of presentation? How should you arrange content similarly or differently than you would the written proposal, a research paper, or other genres of writing?
Does your presentation have a visual appeal that will engage your audience and allow them to understand your central line of reasoning in a clear and meaningful way?
How will you interact with your slides? Given that you should rarely read directly from slides, what shape will your speech take? What big ideas will your pitch center on? How can you frame these ideas so that they can be discussed in an accessible way? Will you provide images or quotations? Will you invite questions during the presentation or try to limit them to the Q&A session?
Practice your presentation to ensure that you will stay within the 5-minute time frame. Presentations that go over the limit might lose points, since they reflect that you have not thoughtfully considered how to present the project in a limited amount of time.
Submission Instructions

Give your presentation at the assigned date and time.
