Q1Apply Your Knowledge
Your friend knows that you’re taking a Child Development course and seeks your opinion regarding their 14-month-old baby. Your friend wants to support their child’s language development, but isn’t quite sure what strategies to use.
From what you’ve learned from this week’s chapter and from Dr. M’s videos, describe at least three different strategies that your friend can use to support their child’s early language learning. Make sure to DESCRIBE each strategy (do not just list) and NOTE the potential consequences of each strategy. We are looking for thoughtful, thorough, and complete responses (for full credit). Your friend will thank you!
Q2 In your own words, first describe what “telegraphic speech” is (in relation to toddlers’ language). Then, provide at least two examples of telegraphic speech to illustrate that you understand the concept.
Q3 We are curious about what stood out to you this week. What were some of the most important and/or interesting things you learned about Cognitive Development in Infancy and Toddlerhood? Describe where you learned this information (e.g., Dr. M’s videos, the textbook, supplemental material) and why it’s interesting and/or important to you.
Note: although there is no “wrong” answer here, we are looking for at least one paragraph (at least 3 complete sentences) and a response to all parts of the question: the what, the where, and the why. Thanks in advance for your thought, thorough, and PROOFREAD responses. We love hearing about what you are learning!
Q4 Reflect and Apply
Close your eyes for a moment, take some deep breaths, and think back… WAY BACK…
Describe (in as much detail as possible) your earliest autobiographical memory. Who was around (if anyone)? Describe the scene. How old were you when the event occurred?
Do your responses fit with research on “infantile amnesia”? Explain so it is clear that you understand the concept of infantile amnesia.
