Psychology Essay on Relapse Prevention
You’ve learned about the signs and symptoms of mental illness, as well as how mental illness impacts the forensic community, throughout this course. Now it’s time to connect everything together with interventions and the impact of mental illness on recidivism. This project will teach you how to work with people who have mental illnesses in the forensic population and how to help them reintegrate into society.
Choose one of the disorders covered in this course.
Choose a case study from the Clinical Case Studies journal in the Week 5 Electronic Reserve Readings that examines the selected disorder.
Assume this person has joined the criminal justice system and requires a plan for delivering services while incarcerated, as well as a plan for re-entering society once his or her sentence has been completed. You’ve been given the task of developing and justifying this strategy based on existing research.
Write a 1,400-word paper describing and justifying your strategy. Include the following in your list:
Provide a brief summary of the individual’s demographics, familial and social history, behavioral symptoms, and why he or she is presently in the penal system.
Based on current evidence, describe appropriate interventions for this individual.
Determine any ethical concerns about dealing with this person in terms of professional ethical rules.
Describe any biopsychosocial characteristics that may have a role in this person’s likelihood of recidivism.
Describe how you plan to help this person with the re-entry process.
Include a minimum of four sources to back your plan with evidence.
APA guidelines should be followed when formatting your paper.
