Question of the United States’ Shift from Isolationism to Imperialism
Fill in the blanks with one of the three prompts below. The goal is to write an essay that incorporates evidence from lectures, readings, Canvas materials, and group work completed in this course. To begin, gather the evidence you intend to use and write clear topic sentences that connect the evidence you have to the question being asked. A topic sentence, a quote setup, a single quotation/piece of evidence, and an explanation of how the quote supports the point you make in your topic sentence should all be included in each body paragraph. After that, you’ll write the essay’s introduction and conclusion. Make sure this essay contains at least 6 pieces of evidence.
Assume that the Glendale Board of Education has determined that there is too much material to cover in a US History class for seniors. They’re debating whether the curriculum should focus on traditional political/economic history or social history (race, gender, and class). You have been asked to contribute your thoughts. Write an essay expressing your opinion on which of the two approaches a High School graduate should be familiar with.
We’ve spent a lot of time in this class looking at historical events as a way of examining and understanding current events. Write an essay about how history can be used to better understand the present, and perhaps even make predictions for the future.
The majority of people believe that history is simply a list of names and dates. We’ve tried to look beyond what happened in the past to see why things happened the way they did in this class. Write an essay about how your perspective on US history has shifted during this semester. Explain how this class has changed your perspective on a historical event in the United States. As you share your perspective, make sure to cover at least four events/periods.
