Instructions:
describing, analyzing, and reflecting on a personal experience with cultural variety.
Understanding cultural variety from a sociological standpoint necessitates first grasping the principles and theoretical frameworks that underlie sociological thought. Race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, social status, age, and physical or mental handicap all fall under the umbrella of cultural diversity. Sociologists look at these categories on both a micro and macro level (how they affect or are affected by individuals) (how they impact society as a whole).
You will practice establishing connections between the micro and macro levels in this evaluation by looking at how your personal experiences or observations relate to bigger problems of diversity in American culture. Consider not only how that event connects to general patterns or trends in the workplace, but also to specific ideas of diversity within the subject of sociology, if you have observed or experienced firsthand a situation involving prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination in the workplace. You will be thinking like a sociologist and practicing your sociological imagination by placing your personal observations and experiences in the context of the society in which you live.
