Instructions:
SELF-PRESENTATION
You will illustrate what you learnt in chapters 1 and 2 in this homework.
Your self-concept is your idea of who you are… Strengths, weaknesses, abilities, and limitations are all factors to consider.
Perceived Self refers to how you see yourself.
How you display yourself to others is referred to as “presenting self.”
Your SELF CONCEPT grows in a variety of ways:
Looking-glass self: you learn about yourself based on how others (significant others) treat you.
Social comparisons: compare yourself to your peers, older siblings, and other family members.
Parents, extended family, religious leaders… all have cultural teachings.
You’ll talk about how you PERCEIVE and PRESENT yourself.
You’ll make a poster board to use as a cheat sheet and visual aid to graphically communicate how you view yourself and how others see you, using words, pictures, or both.
SELF-PRESENTATION
Find out how you present yourself to friends, family, and coworkers by conducting interviews with them.
Request terms that best describe you, along with reasons of why they believe this word best characterizes you.
For example, you are “organized” because you always know where everything is in your room and you enjoy assisting others in staying organized.
On one side of your poster, write these 5-10 words.
SELF-PERCEPTION
Make a list of terms that describe how you see yourself.
Choose examples that will help you understand the words above.
On the Perceived Self side of your poster, write these words. You can use photographs to illustrate the characteristics you’ve listed on the board.
For example, a picture of books or a library with the phrase “Studious.” “I take my academics seriously and am seeking a degree in nursing,” you might add.
Simply list the characteristics of a decent 21-year-old woman.
Studious, organized, kind, pleasant, impatient, perseverant, energetic, generous, honest, trustworthy, non-judgmental, humble, adventurous, sometimes pessimist are some qualities that may be used to define me.
