Sociology Meritocracy Social Stratification Discussion
Help me study for my Social Science class. I’m stuck and don’t understand.
Your answer should be from a sociological point of view, not your personal opinion
Meritocracy or the “ideal system based on the belief that social stratification is the result of personal effort—or merit—that determines social standing (Ch.9)” is what most of us are socialized to understand our class backgrounds and the class structure of our society.
Sociologists argue that social stratification in terms of class is not solely based on meritocracy. Explain your understanding of why individual effort doesn’t fully explain why some people belong to the upper, middle, and working classes.
