Stanford Prison Experiment Assignment Help
Description
DB 6
Consider the Stanford Prison Experiment in terms of its validity and reliability. In terms of its validity, please also address its internal and external validity as well as its mundane realism. Did the researchers do a good job of establishing internal and external validity? Why or why not?
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
Module 3b Overview
With this module, we will learn about experiments. Although that word is used often, usually to mean “study,” in research, there are actually key features that make something an experiment; we’ll explore these through our resources. We’ll discuss independent, dependent, extraneous, and confounding variables and how they impact one another as well as the validity of an experiment.
Last module, we introduced the concept of validity and this week, we’ll build on that by examining both internal and external validity. We’ll also examine the importance of random assignment and how that differs from random sampling. Finally, we’ll focus on different ways to design an experiment using a between-subjects approach or a within-subjects approach. Please make sure to review all resources in the folder, and complete the readings, before completing the discussion board.
Learning Outcomes:
Explain what an experiment is and recognize examples of studies that are experiments and studies that are not experiments.
Distinguish between the manipulation of the independent variable and control of extraneous variables and explain the importance of each.
Recognize examples of confounding variables and explain how they affect the internal validity of a study.
Explain the difference between between-subjects and within-subjects experiments, list some of the pros and cons of each approach, and decide which approach to use to answer a particular research question.
Define random assignment, distinguish it from random sampling, explain its purpose in experimental research, and use some simple strategies to implement it.
Define several types of carryover effect, give examples of each, and explain how counterbalancing helps to deal with them.
Explain what internal validity is and why experiments are considered to be high in internal validity.
Explain what external validity is and evaluate studies in terms of their external validity.
Explain the concepts of construct and statistical validity.
Describe several strategies for recruiting participants for an experiment.
Define what a control condition is, explain its purpose in research on treatment effectiveness, and describe some alternative types of control conditions.
Explain why it is important to standardize the procedure of an experiment and several ways to do this.
Explain what pilot testing is and why it is important.
