Stress Elimination Plan Study Report
Module Five
Identify someone with whom you have had a disagreement, difficulty or discomfort in the past.
Hold a conversation with that person and discuss the issue using the supportive communication guidelines.
Write up the results indicating which principles were used & how; and discussing
what went well, what didn’t go well. What you can improve on?
Module Six
Identify a relationship and setting. Using the guidelines for developing power select four ways you will increase your power in this situation. Use both personal (2) and positional (2) sources of power.
Module Seven
Think of several situations in which you are typically provoked to exhibit punishing behavior, which might include friends, family or co-workers. Examine these situations and:
- Select one in which discipline/punishment is not working, describe the situation.
- Using the guidelines for reprimand/redirect/reward develop a plan to shape the other
person’s behavior so you can begin rewarding positive actions.
- Report on your results and if you feel you would be able to use this strategy in other
situations.
Report on the progress with your stress elimination plan.
Module Eight
Select and describe a specific conflict with which you are very familiar.
- Using the framework for identifying sources of conflict (pp. 378-2) analyze the situation as to: what type of conflict it is, i.e., what is the source? Why did it occur and/or is continuing?
- Next use the guidelines (pp. 383-86) to select an appropriate conflict resolution approach that would be most compatible for the situation.
- Is this the approach the parties to your conflict have been using? If it has been, why is it not successful?
Report on your progress from your 5th journal entry on developing power and your four efforts to develop power. What worked? What did not work?
Module Nine
Teach someone else (friend, significant other, co-worker) how to empower others and delegate effectively using the ten principles for delegating effectively (pp. 465-70).Report your results.
What was their overall reaction to the principles? Which principles did they find difficult?
Module Ten
Answer the following questions in relation to your team.
- Which four stages of development did your team pass through? Give specific examples of each stage. You can refer to Table 9.2, page 498 and pages 498-506 in the text.
- Identify specific examples of task facilitating (Table 9.5, page 513) and relationship
building roles (Table 9.6, page 515) exhibited by team members. How did these roles
sort out? Who was predominantly fulfilled each role? Who was a mixture of both?
- Who were your team leaders? Give specific examples of their leadership behavior. Did they establish credibility (Table 9.4, page 507) and/or articulate a vision with goals (pages 509 – 511).
- What blocking behaviors (pages 515-517) were exhibited by your team members? How were they addressed?
Report on the progress with your stress elimination plan.
Module Eleven
Using the information you received from your team members (and any other you choose to obtain) create a best self-portrait. Write at least a paragraph describing and integrating the feedback you received. Refer to pages 581-2 in the text for additional guidance. Here are points to address:
- What you learned about your key strengths
- What was and was not surprising about the feedback
- What circumstances bring out your best
- How you intend to capitalize/follow-up on this feedback
Refer back to the goals you established in your first journal entry and assess your progress in meeting your goals.
