3.2.2 Gilgamesh as Hero & Primary Source Analysis Paragraph #1Please read through this unit. Your assignment instructions are below. Once Gilgamesh and Enkidu become friends, one of their first quests together is to the Forest of Cedars where they defeat the monster Humbaba and bring timber back to Mesopotamia.
Most lumber in the ancient Middle East was exported from the modern-day region of Lebanon. It is safe to assume that Gilgamesh and Enkidu journeyed from the region of present-day Iraq (Mesopotamia) to present-day Lebanon on this quest.
(Side note: The flag of Lebanon features a cedar tree to commemorate the state’s historic and contemporary significance as a lumber capital). Before they embarked on the quest, Gilgamesh consulted with the elders of Urus who warned Gilgamesh and Enkidu of the potential dangers.
