Paper details:
The topic should be related to the EU migration policy, from any preferred perspective (asylum, return, cooperation with third countries, institutional cooperation within the EU etc) the essay should have at least 8 sources. 3 of them need to be from the reading list of the course, I attached all of them as a PDFs. along with the readings, there are PDF files that have the slides we took in class just in case they help you. Essay: In terms of substance and argument, your essay could be called a problem-centered literature review As far as the argument is concerned, you dont need to – Come up with a completely original argument (reinvent the wheel) – Contribute a completely original finding – Necessarily collect your own data, unless they are needed to complement your argument – Guess on the future or provide policy recommendations (what will the EU look like? What should the EU do?)
In the essay, you have to: – Introduce your research question – Discuss (compare, analyze, integrate) at least 8 pieces of literature in a way that informs your question. 3 pieces MUST BE DRAWN from the reading list of the course, 5 others should be found through your own research. – Conclude the essay by summarizing how the literature (and eventually your additional empirics) answer (or at least inform) your question Criteria for evaluating the final essay Question: clear, feasible (i.e. narrow) Argument: clear, informed by theory, backed by evidence, well elaborated, analytical rather than purely descriptive Structure: clear, signposting, appropriate (minimum: introduction, main part, conclusion), self-contained, paragraphs Sources: high quality scientific articles and books, primary data, no random websites, not only textbooks. References: Chrystal-clear, consistent, complete Mechanics: sophisticated but simple style, cover-page, table of contents; excellent grammar, spelling, punctuation; readable. As for the topic, I initially wrote my abstract for the paper on the role of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in the development of the EU migration policy.
I would recommend this topic for you to follow BUT you could choose another topic that is related to the theme of the course, please let me know before you start writing whether you will use my original topic or another one that interests you more. these are some ideas for topics that I took from the course slides: Select a policy-making phase and focus on it (i.e. implementation: literature on compliance, analysis of operational activities of some Member States, or of agencies or of international organizations such as UNHCR and IOM) Focus on a theoretical debate and analysis one/more under-explored empirical cases applying the theoretical framework (securitization theory, functionalism, intergovernmentalism) Choose an actor/group of actors (EU institutions, some groups of Member States, humanitarian actors, migrants, specific third countries in relation to the EU) and follow actors ? behaviors in under-explored empirical cases (unpack actors ? agency)

Coursework Title:
Trade, FDI and MNEs
Referral Task Details/Description:
Evaluate the following for Canada:
The factors that affect Canadas trade patterns with its 10 most important partner countries and its top 5 OECD FDI partners.
The different theories that explain Canadas trade & FDI patterns with its respective trade and FDI partners.
Using the institution- and resource-based views, identify the challenges confronting MNEs from Canada that wish to expand overseas. How can the firms overcome them?
Coursework Guidelines:
In order to pass the coursework project, you should analyze the patterns of trade & FDI of Canada with its 10 & 5 most important partner countries, respectively (randomly chosen partner countries will not suffice). You may choose any year/years for your analysis. In case of the latter, the relevant data will need to be summarized in a logical manner with details in the coursework text.
In order to pass the coursework project, you must log on to the UK Data Service (UKDS) & other relevant databases as detailed in the help guides available at the modules Blackboard site, register where required, accept the terms and conditions of the databases and download and work with relevant data that explain patterns of trade & FDI. Please note that registration at the indicated sources is free.
If you would like to use other reputable sources of data, please provide details and check with your tutor prior to data use. Such sources exclude sites such as Investopedia, Wikipedia, economics help, Tutor2You and other similar sites.
You are advised to source the relevant data as soon as possible. This is to ensure that technical difficulties, if any, are resolved with sufficient time to complete the assessment. A help document titled Data Sources and UKDS registration guide is available at the modules Blackboard site (under the Assessment section) with instructions on sourcing the data.
The coursework project should be presented in an appropriate format, for example: a brief introduction, the main body/content and the conclusions. In general, the coursework should be well-structured with clear, logical narratives & arguments and fully referenced both in-text and via the reference list using the Harvard referencing format. The coursework has a word limit of 2700-3000 words (see Presentation Requirements below for details), i.e. the submission must have a word count of not less than 2700 words and not exceeding 3000 words. The word limit is an overall one that is applicable to the whole coursework. In conjunction with the aforementioned, word count allocations across sections/criteria within the coursework is at your discretion. Where the word limit is exceeded, text until the limit is assessed and awarded credit.
You may wish to present the data in tabular or graphical format to evaluate trade-related & FDI-related data. You should construct your own tables and graphs from the data you have downloaded. Screenshots and copy-pasted data sans relevant workings/formatting will not be awarded credit. The data source must be referenced with the table using the Harvard referencing format.
The coursework should refer to relevant theory. Related diagrams must be hand-drawn / drawn using MS Word drawing tools. In case of the former, the scanned image (with image number, and title) must be within the main text and not in an appendix. In case of the latter, the image must be within the main text and not in an appendix. Screenshots and copy-pasted images form online sources will not be awarded credit.
All diagrams, tables and figures should be numbered sequentially, appropriately labelled, located and discussed in the main text, not as an appendix. All narratives/argument/expositions should be discussed in the main text and not in an appendix. Appendices, if included, will not be marked.
Do not use direct quotations. Data and expositions copy-pasted from lecture content will not be awarded credit. All ideas, narratives, arguments and analysis must be summarized and/or explained by the author is his/her own words and properly referenced in text and via a reference list.
The coursework is submitted online and checked for plagiarism and/or collusion. Thus, all narratives, arguments and analysis must be summarized and/or explained by the author is his/her own words. All sources used (for data, narratives, arguments and analysis) must be acknowledged and properly referenced in text and via a reference list.
Arguments should be supported within the text using Harvard referencing. A list of references for cited material and relevant databases should, additionally, be included at the end of your coursework project and presented using the Harvard referencing format.
Your reading list should include the recommended readings. Additional, relevant discretionary reading from reputable sources (i.e., NOT sites such as Investopedia, Wikipedia, economics, Tutor2You and other similar sites) can also be included.
The coursework must be written in third person. Please do not show your name on the document.
