The Pandemic of Covid 19 and Its Effect on the Labor Market
You will be given an economic podcast and asked to critically examine it for this writing assignment. Your analysis will be rated on its quality and thoroughness. As a result, you’ll be scored on the clarity, flow, and general cohesion of your paper’s writing.

Prompt
Covid-19 is the biggest job killer in a century, says the podcast’s introduction. What does re-employment look like once the lockdown eases? Who will come in first and who will come in last? Which
industries will boom, and which will fade away? The President of the United States has asked you to provide a critical assessment on the Covid-19 outbreak and its influence on the job market after listening
to this audio. The President will make policy recommendations based on your report. In the audio, you must assess one of the four economists’ arguments/opinions.
Follow the steps in the outline below to write your paper:
Introduction to the paper (5 points): The introduction (first paragraph) summarizes what you believe to be the article’s major point(s). If there are a lot, concentrate on the one(s) you’ll be analyzing in the
assignment.
A brief summary of the podcast (5 points) should be supplied. This summary should include all of the main points from the audio, as well as any noteworthy information or components. Spending the entire
assignment summarizing the full article is not a good idea. Summaries should be brief and to the point, averaging one paragraph in length.
Explain the arguments of “your chosen” economists (15 points): The President is aware of “the above economist,” but lacks the necessary knowledge to enact policy. You must explain what the economist is
arguing in this area. (Don’t simply paraphrase what they said.) You must use the models and methods you have learnt during the semester to demonstrate their point of view. At the very least, you should use
one of the economic concepts we’ve discussed in class. To put it another way, I expect you to illustrate the economists’ arguments by developing a graph and demonstrating the reasoning’ impacts. Your
graphs should be detailed and comprehensive.
Critical Analysis (40 points) of the Argument: This is the most crucial part of the project.
Students should concentrate on whether or not they agree with the economist and what recommendations they might make. Students should also consider how the podcast’s content will affect the
economy in a macro context. The nature of the analytical section has the possibility to be modified. However, I recommend adhering to the following guidelines:
To assess the argument, you must first comprehend the author’s claims. Begin by identifying the assumptions that underpin the argument and determining if the conclusions are based on these
assumptions. Try to separate the argument from the facts presented to support it.
To do a critical evaluation, you must first dissect the argument’s numerous parts and determine whether they make sense individually and as a whole. Can you think about the argument in a different way
using the tools you learnt in class? Examine the author’s argument to check if there is anything missing or if he or she has utilized a tool or method erroneously or inappropriately. Is there any proof that
refutes their claim?
I expect you to apply at least one of the economic models we discussed in class. The AS/AD model, the Classical model, the Phillips Curve, and so on should all be used. Your models should be detailed as
well. Make sure you read the sections that explain what the models mean and how they affect the economy.
All models must be hand-drawn. Any models “grabbed” from the book or the internet will not be counted and will have a negative impact on your grade. Hand-drawn models should be digitized and in good
condition.
Ending (5 points): A solid conclusion is critical because it is your last chance to create an impact on your reader. The purpose of your conclusion is to summarize all you’ve written, not to propose any new
ideas. Your conclusion should specifically achieve three important objectives:
Restate your essay’s core point, or thesis statement.
Write a summary of your essay’s main topics.
Leave an intriguing final impression on the reader.
Bibliography: At least three sources must be cited. One source could be class notes or lectures. One source can be accounted for in the textbook.
How should you format your paper?
Your paper should be typed, double-spaced, and 12 points in font size.
Three pages are required (not including models, works cited page).
The assignment should be written in Microsoft Word.
