Prior to beginning work on this assignment, review Section 4.5.2 Stylistic Periods or Movements in your textbook and go through the Art Identifying Movements (Links to an external site.) interactive, examining the different movements.
Select two works of art, each from a different movement. Select works of art that you have not previously examined in this class. Consider using the University of Arizona Global Campus Librarys ART101: Week 2 Assignment web page to research both of your movements and find a credible source for each movement.
In your paper, for each work of art,
Identify the title of the work, the name of the artist, the date of the work, the place it was created (if known), and the movement it is from.
Provide a formal critical analysis.
Refer to Section 4.3.5 for examples of formal critical analyses (Links to an external site.). Your analysis should contain the following four aspects:
Description
Analysis
Interpretation
Evaluation
Explain how political, social, and other applicable contextual factors of the movement or stylistic period is reflected in the work of art.
Refer to Section 5.3: Socio-Cultural Contexts of your textbook, and your researched sources from the University of Arizona Global Campus Library for help with this.
Include images of both works of art in an appendix at the end of your paper.
