Reconciling the Individual with the State is the title of this course. To that aim, we looked at Mill’s attempts to strike a compromise between personal liberty and political demands. We saw how the aristocratic character is ultimately incompatible with politics with Nietzsche.
Rorty attempts to establish a Liberal Ironist Utopia in his book Contingency, Irony, and Solidarity (what we are calling a Postmodern Liberal Democracy).
Please answer one or more of the following questions: Explain what I mean when I claim that Rorty radicalizes Mill and politicizes Nietzsche in his endeavor to establish a Liberal Ironist Utopia. By “radicalize,” I mean how Rorty takes Mill’s key ideas to their logical conclusion.
