Format: Dot point format for summary and free text for Questionnaire.
Word Count: 1000 – 1200 words (not including subheadings, in-text citations, your reference list or the questions on the questionnaire)
Weighting: Supplementary Assessment – Pass/Fail
Comprehension and critical thinking task
Task Instructions:
1. Select one of the three topics for debate from the following list
a) Decriminalisation or Legalisation of Marijuana
b) The Death Penalty
c) Voluntary EuthanasiaPS: Can you please help me to choose one topic?
2. Research your topic using scholarly sources
3. List at least 5 key points in support of the issue. Provide additional information on each point using sub headings.
4. List at least 5 key points opposing the issue. Provide additional information on each point using sub headings.
IMPORTANT: Do not merely paraphrase or copy and paste points made from websites. This will result in a Fail. The idea is for YOU to research and consider each point and then list what YOU think are the main arguments.
5. Complete the Assessment 1 Points of Debate Questionnaire (attached to the Supplementary Assessment email). Make sure to be critical and reflective in your position prior to your research and after your research. For example, if your position has changed, state why; if your position has not changed, state why; if your position has only become stronger, state why; if you have become more neutral, state why etc.
Minimum References: 10
Criteria:
a. Topic comprehension
b. Accurate overview of issue (covering both sides)
c. Originality (i.e. not just copied) and depth (i.e. level of detail in sub points) of overview
d. Quality of Questionnaire answers (depth and demonstration of critical thinking)
e. Writing (e.g. spelling grammar) & referencing

Please Note: While this criteria will be used to determine your mark and serves as a useful resource for checking you have completed the task accurately you will not receive feedback, marking matrix or an overall mark for this assessment as supplementary assessment is Pass/Fail.
