Reassessing Client Risks and Needs Consider the following scenario: a 32-year-old male recently released from prison. The client had previously served two years in prison for methamphetamine possession and distribution. He was treated while in prison, but relapsed 2 months later and used methamphetamine. The client has Hepatitis C, which he acquired while incarcerated. He was on medication until last month when he failed to submit a required document to the Medicaid office. As a result, he lost his insurance.
The client is married with a 3-year-old child. The client was 28 and had bipolar disorder. Since his release from prison, the client has had emotional outbursts and domestic violence episodes with his wife. He got his GED at 25, but never went to college. During his adolescence, the client had dyslexia. He has no job skills because he only worked as a dishwasher for two months as an adult. Prior to his arrest, he made most of his money selling drugs.
The client is currently looking for work but is having trouble finding it due to his prior criminal record.
Make a mind map of the client’s needs in each category. Create a second mind map of the client’s risks that fit into each category. Answer the following questions in a 700-word essay: Why is it important to reassess a client’s needs after they are released from prison?
How can a person’s needs and risks be mitigated to reduce recidivism once released from prison?
Citations should follow APA style.
