Review of the book
(The Young Turks’ Crime Against Humanity: The Armenian Genocide and Ethnic Cleansing in the ottoman Empire)
This book is introducing the genocide movemnet and how the young turks reacted or perform in it, and also the greeks and turks struggles and the way they were together. Also in another way it’s presenting what is the total number of arminid deported from within your province or provincial district to some other location, as well as the value of the abandoned property belonging to them.
How many Armenians are there presently residing in your province or provincial district and how many of them are residing within their own homes.
How many of the abandoned houses belonging to the deported Armenians were given to Muslim immigrants, and how many were put up for auction by the fiancé Ministry. (Akcam,2012, 241)’.
And the major 5 points that were discussed are:
1. The 5 to 10 percent regulation and the destruction of the Armenians(Akcam,2012, 242)
2. The 10 percent rule in the places to which Armenians were sent (Akcam,2012, 248).
3. Is there a connection between 5 to 10 percent policy and genocide? (Akcam,2012, 253). 4. The existence of limited settlement policy of the settlement policy (Akcam,2012, 264). 5. Population censuses and the abandonment of the settlement policy (Akcam,2012,272). · it also discussed these important points:
Religious conversions during deportation (Akcam,2012, 291)
All the Armerian villages in and around Samsun had been Islamized (Akcam,2012, 292). The German consul mentioned mass religious conversions in his report from Trebizond on 26 June (Akcam,2012, 293). Mass conversions to Islam took place especially in the black sea region (Akcam,2012,p#295). Permission is again given for religion conversion (Akcam,2012, 299). The Ministry clothed conditions under which religious conversions would or wouldn’t be accepted (Akcam,2012, 300). Assimilation and religious conversion at the end points of the deportations (Akcam,2012, 301). The final choice: Islam or deportation (Akcam,2012,304). Doctors determining the religious conversion policy (Akcam,2012,307). Assimilation of children and older girls (Akcam,2012,311). Changes in attitude toward missionary schools (Akcam,2012,328). How were the revenue from the sale of Armenians property ultimately used?‘(Akcam,2012, 356)’.
1. The needs of Muslim immigrants.
2. The creation of a Muslim bourgeoisie.
3. The creation of the army.
4. The government’s expenses for the deputation.
5. Various government needs.
6. The needs of militia.
I liked how Taner Akcam discussed and introduced the turks and greeks in the genocide movement and the way he represented the roles they played during the movement. I didn’t like how much crime and inequality were. Humanity is the most important thing in the world and that’s what we live for.
