From studying this module, I have learned a few strategies to preform before beginning to read an article or book. I’ve chosen an article about a topic that I’m very passionate about.

I’ve chosen an article about cars generally, and specifically about the return of the Japanese motor company: Acura; and the return of the production of one of their most popular and missed models, the Integra.

This article was published online and can be found on any browser and was specifically published under an automotive news page/online catalog named “Motortrend”.

It was published on August 20th, 2021. ‘Arkestien’ wrote this article, Brandon Lim was the credited photographer and Abimelic Design were responsible for the illustrations of the article.

The major headings in the article question what certain aspects or features will be introduced with the vehicle, for example: “Two or Four Doors?”, “What’s Underneath?”, or “Electrified?”.

These headings describe the information about to be reviewed in the upcoming body paragraph, and they helped me locate certain information without needing to read the entire article. The images in this article include the important angles of the car such as the front, sides and rear so the viewer can see what the car is going to look like.

The article also includes a photograph of another popular model of the company who owns Acura: Honda; the Honda Civic is shown in this article due to them mentioning a resemblance of the Civic in the new Acura, which would be expected since they also mention that even the previous models also were based on Civics.

A lot of terms are used in the article such as “Electrified”, which is a heading, and this term is related to the cars method of power being electric instead of gas powered. The article does make use of dates, such as the date they mention in the summary which is August 13th, 2021; the day the return of the Integra was announced.

I also spotted general dates such as the year 2023 all over the article, but no month or exact date, and this suggests that the 2023 Acura is expected to be on the market on the year of 2022 (Car manufacturers name their models one year ahead, i.e., 2012 Toyota Camry was actually released on 2011).

I have not yet read the article and have already formed some questions, such as: Will it have a gas-powered variant? Will it have VTEC like its previous models, is there any new features about VTEC, and finally: Civics back then had B16 (B18 for later models) engine models and so did the Integra’s, so will the upcoming Integra include a K20 like the present day Civic since its still being based on it?

These pre-reading strategies helped me spark up questions in my mind about whatever I read in the summary given at the introduction of the article, and the pictures of the new Integra caught my eye, and if I didn’t already know Integra’s were based on Civics then I would’ve been lost as to why the Civic was being shown. The headings provided me with a sense of organization and also aided in sparking my interest to form questions.
