Antibiotic Resistance Prokaryotes and Dysbiosis Discussion
I’m studying for my Biology class and need an explanation.
- In some cases, science is advanced when the public participates in collecting, and sometimes analyzing, data. Name one way in which citizen scientists benefit from this type of collaborative effort.
- Explain how bacteria can incorporate a gene for antibiotic resistance from another bacterial cell.
- If prokaryotes were unable to convert nitrogen gas into ammonia or nitrate, how would life on Earth be different than it is today?
- What is the phenomenon referred to as dysbiosis? What problems may occur as a result of dysbiosis?
Achievements & Needs for The Climate Change Scenario Framework Article Discussion
Instructions: There are a lot of articles that you can find on the web (e.g. Science Daily, Discovery News, BBC, CNN, Nature, Science) about groups of organisms that are bacteria, archeans, protists, and plants or you can look for
articles on conservation and ecosystems, biomes, and climate change. For this discussion you need to find one of these relatively current (within the last year) articles that relates to Chapters of this section. When you have
identified the article you need to do the following that involves several postings by you.
Your first post is about the article:
write at least 300 words in length about the article which includes-
A three- four sentence summary of the articles main point or purpose of the information.
A short discussion on how the article specifically relates to the class and/or chapters we are studying
A statement about why the article is important and what you think about the material in the article.
Any questions you have regarding the article
and you MUST have the url to the article attached to your work. It needs to be in the form of a link so I and other students can find and read this article.
Your second, third and fourth post:
Read and respond to at least two of your classmate’s articles. Your third and fourth post can be answering responses to your initial article, or responses back to your questions or comments to other students, or you can respond to
other students who posted to your article.
ECOSYSTEMS AND BIOMESby Yujie Yang – Thursday, 1 July 2021, 10:01 PMNumber of replies: 0
The article “Habitat and species loss leave just 3% of world’s land ecosystems intact, study suggests” mentioned that just under 3% of the world’s land remains ecologically intact, with undisturbed habitat and minimal loss of its
original animal species. The research mentioned that human damage to habitat shows that animals have disappeared from their actual ranges or are too low in number to maintain a healthy ecosystem to reach its conclusions.
The article is essential because it shows how humans impact ecosystems and biomes. The impact that human causes on the ecosystems had led to many animals to lose home and their habitat. We think that 3% is a lot because
the number of wild animals in the world is way less than humans, but wild animals used to have more land to live on until we started building and disrupting their lives. This article is essential to this class because causing damage
to the ecosystem may cause many nearly extinct animals to become extinct. I think this article is very important in raising awareness of animal extinction and damage to animal habitats. Still, many people today don’t care about
animal extinction because it will not impact our lives.
We couldn’t do anything to stop animals from extinction, but there are many organizations built for treating and breeding nearly extinct animals. Ordinary individuals like us can’t contribute a lot to preventing animals from
extinction, but we still can do many things. We can reduce our carbon emissions by not driving every day and voting for individuals that will help prevent animal extinction. I don’t think animal extinction is a massive issue because
organizations like “save animals” are doing great work that help keep those animals away from extinction. We should support these organizations and also stop hurting the environment because we don’t want extinction to happen
to humans.
