Assignment on Information Literacy and Society
This assignment gives you the chance to think about the sociocultural issues and implications that the concept of information literacy brings up.
You have used the concept of information literacy in your academic work throughout the course. Please broaden your scope for this unit and share your thoughts on how you see information literacy being applied in our society in a 2-3 page reflective essay.
The following are some possible prompts: Are some groups more informationally literate than others? If so, what’s the reasoning behind it? Is this something to do with the idea of “information privilege”? If that’s the case, could you explain how? How does a population that is informationally literate benefit society? What is the impact of a non-English-speaking population on a society? Do you think our society places a high value on information literacy? What makes you feel this way? Should we be concerned about a society’s information literacy skills?
In this essay, you may use the personal pronoun “I.” If you’re using secondary sources, make sure to include a citation like (Smith, 2002, p. 82) and a reference in APA format.
Part Two:
nstructions
We’ve been learning about and using APA style for the past six weeks. Include the following in your first post:
Give an explanation of why academic institutions use the APA style.
Give two examples of how your understanding of APA style has changed since the beginning of the course. For instance, you might not have known what APA stood for before, but now you know it stands for the American Psychological Association.
Explain what you found the most difficult about APA style and how you overcame it.
Describe the resources available to the student that can help with APA formatting.
Please make sure to back up your claims and ideas with APA-style citations and references.
