For this assignment you are going to view the provided video, choose one of the two children in the video (one girl in yellow shirt or the girl in the white and red skirt) to write a developmental story for. This story will capture what the child is showing developmentally that you observe now, where the child’s development next steps will be according to the developmental theories, principles and stages the text readings, class learnings and discussions have highlighted in the class. The knowledge of development is a critical piece to a teacher’s ability to present curriculum to children that is interesting, engaging and developmentally appropriate for the age of children they are caring for. It is also a critical part to the quality of care a program can provide for young children.
This week our discussion board highlighted specific aspects of development that are critical to curriculum that is appropriate for young children. After the discussion this week, identifying these important developmental aspects, and the text reading in chapter 4 that are critical in developing curriculum and building a program that is quality and successful we will put the observation skill ability of yours into action with this class assignment in creating a developmental story of a child you watch in the video below.
For this assignment you will view the attached video of children playing. You will then create a developmental story that tells the story of what developmental points you saw and that you read about in chapter 4 of the text. You will include in your story where they are developmentally now in the video and what the next stages of development they will be looking to reach according to the developmental stages and principles of young children we have been discussing. Lastly, use your text readings and class discussion to support the finding and to explain your story of their development that we should be supporting as a teacher for this child.
