Criminal Discussion Assignment for Victimologists
Correctional officials’ responsibilities include security and inmate responsibility. They are in charge of preventing inmate or prisoner disturbances, physical attacks, and escapes. Correctional guards’ jobs might make them both empathetic and antagonistic toward victims. Because they work with perpetrators who have been abused, they may be empathetic.
Do you believe it is necessary to educate correctional staff in the field of victimology in this context? Victimology is the study of why certain people become victims of crime. It also involves research into how particular people’s lifestyles make them more vulnerable to becoming victims. The following is a quote from author Susan Sontag about victims: “The word “victim” connotes innocence. And innocence implies guilt, according to the inexorable logic that rules all relationship concepts.”
Is the quotation admissible in the context of victimology research? Why? Have you come across any instances in your life that support or refute this quote? To illustrate your agreement or disagreement, provide two examples from your personal life.
Is it possible for cops who work with the same criminal populations to have different perspectives on victims? Is it possible for victimologists to assist correctional officers, or do victimologists and correctional officers form an unnatural partnership? Why? Use research-based examples or personal experiences to back up your arguments.
