Discussion of the Great Depression
1521th chapters
You’ll need a thesis statement as well as specific historical evidence to back it up. You can’t just say, “In the 1910s, there was violence against African Americans.” You’ll need proof to back up your claim. Take, for example, The Tulsa Riot, and describe it in detail. Give more than a list of people or events. You must describe who or what they were, as well as how they are related.
To cover it, you’ll need at least 2-3 double-spaced pages (1000 words).
Discuss the Great Depression and the responses of Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. (Refer to the textbook)
Begin with Hoover’s election in 1928 and the causes of the Great Depression in this essay. Take a look at Hoover’s and Andrew Mellon’s responses. Smoot-Hawley Act, Reconstruction Finance Corporation, and others. What was it like to live in America? Consider the Scottsboro Boys case and the transient issue.
Consider FDR’s election. The First New Deal and the Second New Deal, in my opinion.
Covers banking, the first 100 days, the NRA, CCC, PWA, AAA, the Dust Bowl, and housing. What is the reaction of labor? Who was against FDR’s policies?
Then there’s the WPA, Social Security, the Wagner Act, court packing, and so on in the Second New Deal. What impact did the New Deal have on women? Who are the indigenous peoples? Mexican-Americans? African-Americans?
2 to 3 pages are required.
