Discussion Paper on Community Assessment
Choose a community problem for which you will undertake an abridged assessment that is relevant to your field placement, such as the need for more social work-based mental and emotional health services. (I’ve chosen the need for increased mental and emotional health services provided by social workers.) You’ll show that you can use secondary data and study findings to comprehend the situation, as well as conduct key informant interviews.
Identify community assets that can be leveraged to address the challenges, and explain how you would approach the situation from the perspective of those who are directly affected.
Write a 6- to 8-page research paper (APA style 7th Edition) that includes the following information.
a brief overview of the population (protecting confidentiality)
a proposed or required change
based on the findings of recent research (and leaves out) At least 5 outside-of-class sources must be cited.
a description of what the impacted population has to say about the concerns (based on interviews, observation, and/or research).
You will present a summary of your results so that we may all learn from the various community concerns you have chosen.
