Discussion Paper on Computer Science Ethics
“Human beings are created in the image of God” (Gen 1:27), thus they should be treated as one-of-a-kind creations, and any organization should treat everyone with compassion, dignity, justice, and respect. This project requires students to think about the ethics of data gathering and use. It raises the fundamental question of whether it is permissible to collect information on private persons for the benefit of a larger goal.
Private persons, as well as large and small businesses, are subjected to data collection.
The way this data is used has been, and continues to be, divisive. Discuss the Edward Snowden leak and ethics in the use of information in 500 words or more.
Was it ethical for the CIA and other agencies to gather information on these people? Was it reasonable?
What could have been avoided if this surveillance had been in place?
We are to help and encourage one another from a Christian perspective (John 13:35; 15:17; Ephesians 4:32). We are to reprimand and confront one other as needed. How would you view this case, done in love and with caution regarding our own flaws (Proverbs 27:5; Matthew 18:15-17; Galatians 6:1), if you were the judge?
