Original Abstract
Social media is crucial part of everyday life in most of our society. This particularly true of university students. University students reply on social media to commutate with others. Social media multitasking has become a normal factor for university student. There is very little known about how the use of social media and multitasking of social media effects university student academic performance. This study exams if and how the use of social media and multitasking of social media predict academic performance among university students. The study used 348-eight college students of Hong Kong university. The study discovered that using social media for academic purposes was not a substantial forecaster of academic performance as measured by cumulative grade point average. However, when the students used social media for nonacademic such as video games and social media multitasking significantly negatively predicted academic performance.
Synopsis
In the study, the author evaluated the impacts of social media usage on students’ academic achievement. Generally, social media networks have resulted in tremendous positive impacts in social life. However, the rapid adoption of social media in academics tends to result in slightly different effects compared to those in the social world. Today, most students have opened accounts with various social media sites where they spend most of their time socializing with friends and family which, in turn, affect academic achievement negatively.
Also, social media have made many students engage in multitasking whereby they try to balance their academic with social life, something that has made them sacrifice their studies for socializing. It is a problem that affects a large percentage of students, especially those in universities. The data for analysis was collected from Hong Kong University that comprised 348 respondents. The survey indicated that social media consumption has little positive impacts on the students’ academic excellence. The research also revealed that both social media usage for academic and non-academic purposes have adverse effects on the overall grade of students. Students who were heavy users of social media sites recorded poor grades than those who did not use social media. Nevertheless, although the media can be utilized for academic purposes, its impact on the overall grade is minimal. As such, students should limit their usage of social media to enhance their academic achievements. Besides, the study has presented essential points regarding the harmful implications of social media on student’s academic excellence which will form part of my arguments.

The study used a quantitative approach because it employed objective evaluation of the topic as well as used numerical data and experimentations to arrive at conclusions. For example, the researcher used a sample of 348 students to establish the association between social media consumption and academic achievement. The purpose of the study was to examine social media addiction in a sample of university students. On the idea of Internet addiction scale developed by Young (1996) the researcher used cross-sectional survey methodology in where a questionnaire was circulated to 1327 college students with their consent. The analysis of the self-report data displayed that there are three independent dimensions associated with social media addiction. These dimensions were positively related to the users experience with social media; time spent using social media and satisfaction with them. It was also found that addiction to social media has a negative in college student of academic performance as shown by a student’s GPA. Future studies should consider the cultural values of users and examine the context of social media usage.

Today, many people stay online for long, something that has become a massive problem for university students. Previous studies indicate that internet addiction rates among young people and students in various countries such as the UK, China, and Italy are rising rapidly since the 1990s. It is estimated that internet addicts tend to spend between eight to twenty-one hours a week online, and this time is anticipated to rise.
Besides, the growth of free social media applications and the development of Wi-Fi have enhanced internet addiction among young people. College students have not been left out from this effect. The information for evaluation of this research was gathered from a state university of Kuwait using a sample of 1326 participants. The survey established that social media addiction impacts students’ academic excellence negatively. It was also found that the time that the students could have utilized for studying was sacrificed for social media usage which affected their GPA. In other words, the time used for social media usage displaced the time assigned for studying. Generally, students with symptoms of social media addiction had lower GPA compared to those who did not. Besides, this study is significant for my topic because it has explained the implications of social media addiction on students’ academic achievement that will form part of my arguments.

Original Abstract
The study explored the use of mobile phone in the classroom by using an experimental that study how message content ,whether relates or not to the lecture of the class and the creation of the message effect student learning. Participants in eight experimental groups and a control group viewed a video lecture. Then took notes, and completed tests of student learning. The control and relevant message groups made 10–17% higher letter grade. They scored 70% higher on recalling information than the students who wrote tweets or answered irrelevant messages. They also score 50% higher on note-taking. Sending/receiving messages unrelated to class content negatively impacted learning and note-taking, while related messages did not appear to have a significant negative impact.

In this journal, the authors evaluated the link between mobile phone usages in the classroom with student learning. Technology has taken over most aspects of humankind, and education seems to be the most affected sector since mobile phones have found their way into the classroom. Today, students both in high school and colleges are allowed to enter classrooms with their devices which have impacted their learning significantly. Mobile phones are utilized for both class and non-class related activities which affect the understanding of students. Besides, the data for analysis were collected from a survey comprising eight experimental groups who took notes, watched lecture video, and accomplished tests. The research established that students who did not engage in texting or twitting unrelated contents during sessions recorded a high grade on recalling information learned compared to students who composed or twitted irrelevant texts. Students who wrote unrelated twits and texts recorded a lower grade on remembering information acquired.
As such, mobile usage in the classroom, twitting, and texting unrelated contents impacts the learning of students. Such students cannot take notes appropriately that ends up affecting their ability to recall information which, in turn, impacts their academic grades adversely. Moreover, there is also a little positive impact of texting or twitting class-related contexts during sessions on students’ academic success. Phone usage in the classroom, texting, and twitting affects students’ learning and academic achievement negatively. Such activities prevent them from taking proper notes and concentration which limits their recalling capabilities during tests. Teachers should encourage students to keep away their phones when in class to enhance their learning.

Original Abstract
This paper examines the impact of Facebook usage on students’ academic performance. In addition, it also analyse whether Socialization influences Facebook usage. Empirical data was collected from 1165 Malaysian university students using a questionnaire survey. It was found that the construct Socially Accepted influences Facebook usage while Acculturation does not have any significant relationship with usage. The results also illustrated that there is a positive relationship between students’ Academic Performance and Facebook usage i.e. the higher the usage the better they perceived they perform.

The Facebook is a crucial part of the majority of university students’ daily life. Many university students can gain benefits from using Facebook to exchange information, meeting people, and exchanging educational information. The literature shows that one using Facebook can be very addicting to some university students’ users. The study wanted to is to examine the overwhelming addition of Facebook with college students. Qualitative study using interview is used to obtain data from International postgraduates of University Putra Malaysia of nine colleges. The obtain data recognized three themes. These three themes are:
1.Compulsion to check Facebook.
- High frequency use
3.Using Facebook to avoid offline responsibility.
The results of the three themes displayed that these users were dependent on Facebook. These results created the conclusion that like moderation use and controlled use are important aspect. It is important for student to learn self-control and develop a way to balance out the use of Facebook.

Previous studies have shown that the adoption rate of Facebook among young people and students continue to rise day by day. Moreover, Facebook adoption and usage play a critical role in high education because of its addictive nature. Due to the availability of free Facebook apps and internet access, Facebook dependence has escalated among university students. Although this particular social network site allows students to share academic information to enhance their academic excellence, becoming addictive can impact the academic performance of students adversely.
The data for analysis was gathered from nine participants from Universiti Putra Malaysia. The respondents were postgraduates from this institution. Besides, the survey revealed that the rate of Facebook dependence was high among university students, something that tends to a long way to impact their academic achievement negatively. It was established the excessive Facebook usage among students affects their academic performance adversely because it replaces the time located for studying. It also impacts the interpersonal relationships between the addicts and fellow students as well as lecturers which results in adverse implications on academic excellence. As such, students should moderate their Facebook usage by exercising self-control to avoid becoming Facebook addicts, thus putting their academic success in jeopardy. Besides, this research is essential because it contains both the positive and adverse implications of social media on academic performance, thus will form part of my conclusion.
